Whilst we were on holiday, we sadly found out that Liam passed away, exactly three weeks to the day of his and Jill’s wedding.
We were devastated to hear the news and have since been in touch with Jill to offer our condolences. Thank you to everyone who has also left messages for the family; it really means a lot. Although what we do here at Gift of a Wedding is to give couples the day of their dreams, unfortunately the reality is that we are offering these dream weddings to people with a terminal illness.
Liam struggled throughout the day to keep a brave face, particularly with the heat, but with all the effort from the family and friends, he managed. We hope that his wife Jill and their children have some precious memories to hold on to from this lovely day.
Despite the sad news, we wanted to share the nicer details from the wedding day, so please do carry on reading!
The day was scheduled to be fairly short given how poorly Liam was, so it started at around 2pm and went on until 7pm. We’ve been very lucky and had sunny weddings so far this year, and this one didn’t disappoint. Patricia said it was the hottest wedding she’d ever put on. But it was beautiful, don’t you think?
Jill and Liam met over two decades ago after living across the road from each other, apparently they got talking one day when their eyes met across the pub. Jill plucked up the courage to speak to Liam with one of the best chat-up lines we’ve heard: “do you know anything about central heating?”. Unfortunately he didn’t but it didn’t stop a blossoming romance!
Jill and Liam would have been together for exactly twenty years this September; finally tying the knot in front of their families was a dream come true.
The rest of the day was mostly dedicated to the children, with a face painter, photo booth, bouncy castle and a very accommodating DJ who played the Frozen soundtrack on repeat. You can only imagine how giddy they were! We were incredibly lucky with the suppliers who helped us out on the day and those who donated goods to us beforehand. It surpassed everyone’s expectations, most of all the bride and groom’s.
We can’t stress how much this day meant to those involved, your wedding day really is one of the most important days of your life. Thank you so much to everyone who had supported us in getting items donated and raising awareness about what we do. We couldn’t do it without you.
As per usual, we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who help and donated their goods or services towards making this day extra special.
